Falling on May 3rd, national teacher’s day is a day of great importance. It is the day that people take to give appreciation to teachers nationwide. Some may roll their eyes and claim that appreciating them for something they have to do is a waste of time, but there are many reasons why this day is important, and why teachers do deserve to be appreciated.
To start, teacher’s have the most important job in the world. They are the ones who hold one of the greatest influences over children. They teach them the basic knowledge that is necessary to live in this society and that they need to know. They also introduce the children to society and its hierarchies. Because they are the ones who hold a lot of influence over kids, they are the ones that shape the people who affect the future. This alone warrants a deep appreciation for them that should extend beyond a singular day.
Also, the sacrifices they make in their careers are numerous. A lot of teachers work in schools where they are understaffed and underpaid, yet they still do all they can to provide for their students and give them as good an education as possible. A lot of them even pay for school supplies such as books, pencils, pens, and more out of their own salary. This detracts from their already low salary, highlighting the dedication that they have to their profession and the true care they have for their students.
A lot of people have many misconceptions about teachers. They only see teachers as lazy crabby people who are paid little to barely teach them. However, they fail to consider all the struggles that they have to go through on a daily basis. Teachers are so rarely understood and appreciated, and having this day to appreciate them is a splendid idea. They deserve it for all their hard work in teaching, uplifting, and helping the voices of tomorrow.
In short, while it is nice that there is a day dedicated specifically to appreciate teachers, it is still not enough. Misjudging teachers every day and appreciating them once is something that should not continue. I believe that people need to learn more about teachers and what they go through to understand them better. This will help students to develop better relationships with them and more easily sympathize with their struggles. Anyways, to all the teachers out there, I appreciate you for all you have done and I hope you can continue being excellent!
