Gender inequality is when a certain gender (typically women) are treated unfairly by others simply because of their sex. They can be treated unfairly by being paid at a lower rate than men, even though they have the same experience and skills. Although society has greatly improved from the past, and women are being treated more fairly nowadays, there are still many things that haven’t changed. Where some scenarios, women are continuously being mistreated by men, because of this, women can suffer mentally from this, such as anxiety, hyperarousal and even depression; because of the unfair treatment received by women, they are twice as likely to have a generalized anxiety order, panic disorder, develop depression, develop PTSD, and be four times more likely to die by suicide.
An example of gender inequality that still exists in our society is the fact that women have a triple burden- they are expected by society to have a working paying job to support the family, be a good housewife, and take care of the kids all at the same time, because of this, women get less sleep and exercise, have less leisure time, and earn less money hence putting them at a higher risk of poverty.
